Local Scuba Diving in the Riviera Maya, Mexico
Playa del Carmen is located approximately one hour south of Cancun. In this place there are several dive spots available to you according to your experience. Our dive centers are located in the following hotels: Wyndman Viva Azteca, Wyndham Viva Maya, The Royal Playa del Carmen, Gran Porto Real Playa del Carmen, Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa, and Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Hotel & Spa. If you get seasick frequently, don’t worry because all the coral reefs are no farther than a 15 minute boat ride from the dive centers.
The Riviera Maya coral reef is part of the second longest barrier reef in the world, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. In these reefs you can find more than 250 species of fish and around 60 different hard corals. Our reefs are characterized by having a great abundance of soft corals and many species of hard corals. Also, our reefs have developed very capricious forms that are typical in this area. This assemblage provides the fish and other reef creatures refuge and food. Don’t miss the opportunity to dive in these beautiful locations.

Night Diving in the Riviera Maya, Mexico
There is always some extra mystery and adventure to a night dive.
As the sun sets, you don your dive gear, slip on your mask and bite down on your regulator. A deep breath and you step off the boat – into the underwater night. Although you’ve seen this reef many times before, this time you drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your dive light.
Night diving offers a whole new set of challenges and enjoyments – a familiar, oft-dived site becomes mysterious and alluring. Daytime creatures have vanished and a new range of fascinating and colorful life abounds. At night the reef quite literally comes alive: the coral polyps emerge to feed. All divers know that coral is alive, but when diving a reef during the day, it is difficult for us to conceive that something that so closely resembles rock and stone can possibly be a living creature – diving at night, it becomes obvious. Once your eyes have become accustomed to the dark you will see the phosphorescence glowing around you. What are you waiting for?
